Ingredients

  • For the Patties:
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 for best results
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • For the Foil Packets:
  • 4 large sheets of aluminum foil
  • 2 large potatoes thinly sliced (¼ inch thick)
  • 2 large carrots thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • Additional salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ingredients – Slice the potatoes and carrots thinly. Chop the onion and mushrooms (if using).
  • Make the Patties – In a bowl, mix ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal patties.
  • Assemble the Packets – Lay out four large sheets of aluminum foil. Drizzle each with olive oil. Divide the potatoes and carrots evenly.
  • Add the Patties – Place one patty on top of each vegetable pile. Add onions and mushrooms. Season again with salt and pepper.
  • Seal the Packets – Fold each foil sheet over the ingredients, sealing tightly to lock in moisture.
  • Cook the Packets:
  • Campfire: Place packets on hot coals for 25-30 minutes.
  • Grill: Preheat to medium heat and cook for 25 minutes.
  • Oven: Bake at 400°F for 30-35 minutes on a baking sheet.
  • Serve & Enjoy – Carefully open packets, allowing steam to escape. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Slice vegetables evenly (¼ inch thick) to ensure even cooking.
  • Do not overwork the beef when mixing patties—this keeps them juicy.
  • Double-wrap foil packets if cooking over an open flame to prevent leaks.
  • Customize it! Swap mushrooms for bell peppers, add cheese, or use ground turkey instead of beef.
  • Meal prep tip: Assemble packets in advance and store in the fridge (up to 4 hours) before cooking.
