Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef 90/10 preferred
  • 2 teaspoons dried minced onion
  • 2 teaspoons dried minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seeds
  • teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices American or cheddar cheese
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: mushrooms bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef with dried onion, garlic, crushed fennel, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands.
  • Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape into patties. Press a slight indentation in the center of each.
  • Place patties on the prepared sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes or until internal temp reaches 160°F.
  • Add cheese slices during the last minute of baking and let them melt.
  • Toast hamburger buns under the broiler or wrap them in foil and warm in the oven.
  • Assemble burgers with your favorite toppings and sauces.

Notes

  • For leaner burgers, use a wire rack to allow grease to drip away.
  • Want a gluten-free option? Use lettuce wraps or gluten-free buns.
  • Patties can be frozen raw and baked directly from frozen—just add 5 more minutes.
  • Customize seasoning with smoked paprika, Italian herbs, or cayenne for a spicy kick.
